Invisalign

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that corrects teeth alignment without using metal wires and brackets. It gives patients a different option than traditional braces.

This procedure involves a series of removable, clear plastic aligners that are worn to move your teeth into correct position. Each aligner or tray is used for several weeks before moving on to the next.

It’s the preferred orthodontic treatment for many due to the aesthetic advantage of Invisalign® and the reported patient satisfaction of their end results.

Orthodontic Issues Corrected by Invisalign®

  • Overbite. If your upper front teeth are in a more forward position than your bottom teeth, eating can be difficult.
  • Underbite. This is the opposite of overbite where the bottom teeth are protruding. This misalignment can cause speech issues.
  • Crowded teeth. When there are too many teeth in your mouth, cleaning between them can be tough. This increases your risk of gum disease and cavities.
  • Open bite. With an open bite, your upper and bottom teeth do not touch each other when you close your mouth.

Advantages of Invisalign®

  • Discreet and removable

Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are almost invisible.

You can remove it when eating or cleaning your teeth. You can brush and floss as usual and don’t have to worry about the debris that could get stuck in your dental appliance.

  • Straightens teeth

Veneers can fix discolored or misshapen teeth by masking them or placing a thin shell on top of the affected teeth. But this cosmetic treatment will not be able to correct teeth alignment.

If you’re looking to straighten your teeth, Invisalign® may be the better option.

  • Eliminates irritation

The plastic material is designed for comfort to encourage wearers to use it regularly. There are no metal wires that break, move out of position, or poke your cheeks.

Although there may be an adjustment period the first time you use your aligners, you will eventually get used to it and you will not experience the same discomfort associated with metal braces.

How Invisalign® Works

The first step is an assessment to see if your orthodontic issues are best corrected by Invisalign®. If the treatment is suitable for you, your dentist or orthodontist will devise a treatment plan and create the aligners for you.

Digital images of your entire jaw will be taken using 3D technology. Your dentist will be able to analyze your jaw from different angles and see the changes it will make in the following years. The Invisalign® trays are created to fit your mouth at every stage of your treatment.

The total number of aligners can vary from 20-29 and the duration of the treatment can also vary depending on the patient’s specific case and level of commitment.

You need to wear your aligners throughout the day, except when eating or cleaning your mouth, to ensure its effectiveness. By following your dentist’s instructions, you’ll see progress between each of your appointments.
